With another travel season approaching, you’re probably busy getting a last minute pet sitter, looking up the forecast at your destination, or maybe you're trying to figure out how many outfits to pack.

If you’re like me, you just count on your super-with-it spouse to take care of everything while you actively pull out hair. Whatever the case may be, it’s likely you haven’t stopped to think about travel insurance coverage. Let me tell you why you should.

What you will learn:

What is Travel Insurance Coverage?

Travel Insurance coverage protects you from risks that are not being managed by your existing policies. Even our friends at the State Department agree with us on the importance of securing a policy before traveling abroad.

Travel insurance covers you for things like trip cancellation/interruption, lost baggage, travel assistance or medical services.

When do you Need it the Most?

Trip Interruption/Cancellation

Imagine spending beaucoup bucks on your dream vacation only to find out you can’t go or must leave early. Travel insurance coverages helps recoup your losses when any of this crazy stuff happens:

  • Death, bodily injury, illness, disease, or pregnancy complications
  • Death or serious illness of a family member
  • Natural disaster or evacuation
  • Flight cancellation or delay
  • Job termination (no money honey, sorry!)
  • Jury duty
  • War or terrorist attack

Medical Treatment

This is your biggest area of risk. Why? Because YOU (not your belongings) are priceless.

Imagine going to Machu Picchu, eating a sour grape, and having some serious stomach issues we’d rather not discuss here. Is your current health insurance provider going to pay for a helicopter to medevac you to the nearest hospital?

Will the insurance company pay for medical procedures in a different country? Even if it were necessary, would they fly you back to the States under medical supervision? Quite simply, the answer is, of course not!!!

The good news is that you can get covered and elect for medical expense coverage. Medical expense coverage can cover all that nonsense. You’ll just need to select a limit of coverage and a deductible.

Lost in Paradise

Ever lost your wallet on travel? What about your passport while overseas? That sounds like fun if you're into getting stuck at places... I'm certainly not. Avoid this quagmire by choosing ID, credit, and passport recovery assistance when you get covered, because MAN that would be a nightmare.

You can also get help with tracking lost luggage too. Or maybe, you could just stay in the Caribbean forever…
